Just got a letter therought the post telling me about an 'incredible' deal if we switch from Sky.

We pay about £70 pm for TV plus Sky Sports, Internet and Phone.

The letter says if we switch we get a:

Free Tivo box
Free extra V HD Box for another room
Free installation
Free servicing

Is it really that much better and worth it for for TV XL, Broadband L, and Phone M for £41 pm plus the £20 or so extra for Sky Sports?

And if we do switch how much hassle is it to switch? Just we've heard it can be a right chore :undecided:

We rang up and it works out £77.40 pm for Virgin

And the average price we tend to pay for Sky is £72 pm.

Is it worth it for Tivo, ESPN, and a free V HD Box?

Try building a bundle online. You can pretty much choose what you want then.

As for switching over, it never turned out to be a problem for us and they even cancelled our BT subscription and transferred our number over. I've been hearing recently though that the wait for Tivo installation can be a little lengthy but it all depends on where you are.

We certainly don't regret the move.

I've just built the bundle you asked for and it's come to £83.90 or if you wanted Sky movies on top of that then it's just over £90.

You also have to take into consideration though that you would have no need for a BT line which I'm assuming isn't in your current Sky payment. Also I'm not sure if you already get broadband through Sky or not and if thats on your bill. So what you have to do is add up all of your costs, phone, internet, and TV into one as thats what Virgin pretty much is.

Cheers Stifler

Overall it seems to work out that Virgin would be about £5 more expensive pm.

But the broadband would be a hell of a lot quicker, plus Tivo does sound a lot better.

Hard call like :undecided:

It all depends on what you want, Virgin Media has pretty much ever popular channel Sky has, it just cuts out the crap like the god channel and the welsh speaking only channel. You do miss out on Sky Atlantic but honestly I've never watched anything on there at all. The bonus is that you get a hell of a lot more on demand features, fair enough you could get a bit of it from online but it's easier through Virgin Media and they offer other on demand stuff as well. Sky on demand is also on Virgin Media as well. The Tivo box makes using on demand so much easier with the suggestions.

It all depends on what you want though, do you want to watch more on demand stuff with possibly faster internet or are you happy with Sky and do you value Sky atlantic and Dear god channel.

One of the biggest deal breakers for us was that we can get signal anytime, we got a poor signal from Sky and now with winter coming and the snow, rain, wind etc this is the time you want to be tucked up in bed watching TV instead of having to go out because you have no signal or sitting doing nothing.

Also remember that with Virgin Media you rent the boxes so if anything goes wrong with it it's replaced free of charge, with Sky after a year it's your problem and if you don't pay for their box insurance then the boxes can cost something like £300.

Have you remembered to add your phone line rental to your Sky total bill as you won't get that with Virgin.

Got to say I'm very very happy with Virgin and the internet is so much better than Skys as well.

Aye, we did.

Good post Stifler

Cheers TT.

We'll definitely look into it now. I'm definitely swaying towards Virgin now :)

Unfortunately i was outnumbered 2-1

The upheaval was the the main factor. They don't have a clue

Thats a bit of a shame. I think the On demand content out weights Sky's offering, plus over the next week the Tivo boxes are receiving an update to smooth out the teething issues it's had.

Just secretly unline your dish, complain to your family that Sky are going to charge you a fortune to get an engineer out to fix it and that it would be pretty wise to just tell them bugger instead.
