I'm looking into purchasing a tele, phone and internet bundle from Virgin and I was just wondering if there was anyone out there with any major gripes about the service and if there is anything I should be looking out for or asking about. I've been told to ring up and try and barter a little with them to try and bring down the initial one off cost, so has anyone had any luck with this? Also do they do a friends referral system like they do with Sky? I'd like to get in with the in-laws a little lol.

I have them and have no complaints at all. Internet is cracking and no problems with the rest. Sky now own their tv side of things so the red button stuff is on the way and the majority of the time it's cheaper than sky. I barter yearly for discounts and seem to get them not sure before you sign up. Not sure about referrals either

I've never had any problems with Virgin, although when my contract is up I'm thinking of going to Sky.

The customer services can be s***, always get a persons name if you talk to them as they'll promise the earth and deliver nothing. I was promised a free TV package and didn't get the persons name and they charged me for it. I eventually had the charge dropped but didn't get the free TV after that. I spent hour after hour speaking to idiots before I eventually got what I wanted. They kept quoting terms and conditions at me because I told them I can cancelling, they eventually gave in when I asked for an address so that I could get in the car and drop off the equipment they had supplied.

As for customer services, they are bad but probably no worse than others. I think it's about time I tried to play Sky off against them to see if I can get a better deal as I have Medium TV, XL Broadband, Mobile and Talk Unlimited on the home phone. I might try to get the XL TV at no extra cost.

Not had any complaints really with them.

Broadband upload is going up fourfold for xl this year and they're rolling out the TiVo boxes soon.

Tell them you want a deal but your lass wants sky Atlantic so you're thinking of going with sky. See if they come back with owt.

If someone refers you, they get 50 quid, you get free instalation.

On demand TV is the future, satellite technology is starting to become outdated now.

It's my own opinion, obviously Sky is the dominant position but once virgin get it right I think more and more people will take up their services and defect from Sky.

Sky will have the same service with their anytime+ (that and tivo both need a dedicated 10Mb line), remember the tv service from sky and virgin are owned by the same people now, you'll get your eyes pulled out no matter who you go with.

What's interesting for me is that virgin now have a fair usage policy on their 50Mb bb.

Not big news in itself but they say that you will be capped proportional to your upload.

So like,

After the upload increase you get 5Mb/s on a 50 Mb line (10%), you upload 4gb/s of torrent and your upload speed gets capped to 1.4Mb/s (the same thereabouts as what you have now anyway)

I'm not sure where they're coming from with this unless it's to push their 100Mb service in the near future.

I move into my new house at the end of the month and thinking about going with Virgin like. Seemed ok on the website; £23 for first 6 month then £33 after, thats telly broadband and calls (which im assuming nayone gives a f*** about these days) Does that sound alright or am i likely to go for the offer, get me pants pulled down by loads of hidden charges and end up wishing i went with sky?

If you sign up for a Quidco account (costs £5 per year but only if you make £5; if not it's free) and sign up to contracts or buy things online by clicking through their site first (just log in to Quidco, find the site you want, click their link to go onto it and then carry on as normal) you get paid cashback which goes directly into your bank account.

At the time I posted that comment, Quidco for Virgin Media bundles was £65. So you'd effectively get paid £60 back by going through Quidco instead of directly onto the VM website.

It looks like were off to VM in October when our SKy contract is up. At the moment installation is free but we know someone who has VM and will say they recommended us, so I was wondering does anyone know what we or they will get?

f*** all is all I can think of now.

Getting this installed on Tuesday. XL TV with Sky Sports and Movies (+2 multi rooms, all with 500GB Tivo boxes), M Phone, and 10mb Broadband. All that for under £100pm (and thats after the first 6 months discount), where as Sky was £120 a month alone and BT was about £80 every 3 months. Quite a saving really.

I can see Blockbusters being unhappy at losing my custom though, since movies OD start at 99P compared to their £3 rental fees.

Don't get your hopes up about new releases. You'll find it's cheaper going to Blockbuster than ordering from OD.
