Haven't read the whole thread, but can someone recommend me some ambient? I want ambient that sound massiv and powerful, yet calming. Can't really describe what I am looking for. Ambient that's perfect for the winter. Cold. Hah, I give up.

Anyway, anyone got some tips?

Ulrich Schnauss fits that bill imo, get your hands on A Strangely Isolated Place, unreal album.

Does the Crystal Method count, 'cos I love them?

Love them too, that's all classed as Big Beat though.

Good call on Ulrich Schnauss   I preferred Far Away Trains Passing By, but they're both great.

Aye, I haven't heard anything bad from him tbh, really like all of his albums and EPs.

Giorgio Moroder - Evolution

Moroder's soundtrack for the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series

Old and just one track (rest of the album is great, but less ambient) but the first thing I thought of when I read your post:

Monolake - Mass Transit Railway

This from the same lot:

Monolake - Gobi (sample)

Current favourite ambient album, despite pretentious-as-f*** title:

A Winged Victory for the Sullen - We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced.....

Can't resist posting another Monolake track. Listened to this one all the time during that fearsome winter two years ago, as it really seemed to capture the atmosphere of the frozen city:

Monolake - Void -

Les McCann's 1973 release "Layers" was one of the first electronic jazz albums, and the first album ever to be recorded on 32-track. There's a traditional rhythm section, but McCann plays all the other parts on the then new ARP synthesizer.

Les McCann- "The Harlem Buck Dance Strut"

Aye, I'll try out the album.

The one song did sound amazing, but I'm looking for albums.

But thanks guys. Appreciate it!

Anyways, winter's comming and what's better than some ambient when walking outside in the cold?

First recommendation is Pysage d'Hiver (french and translates to Landscape of Winter). An ambient black metal band with a couple of pure ambient releases. While not being massive, the band is perfect for winter.

Paysage d'Hiver - Inneres Licht

The second is Trist, another black metal band that released an ambient album, and what a monster of an album that is. One 36 minute long song. Lovely!

Triste -Slunce {Full Version} Slunce V Snovém Kraji, Rozplývání, Echa...

This we've got Forest Silence. Started out as an ambient band, and added black metal later. Amazing stuff!

FOREST SILENCE - The 3rd Winter

Perfect winter music IMO.
And fi you'e into black metal then I'll recommend their black metal releases as well. Especially Paysage d'Hiver and Trist. Lo-fi as f***, but that's the way I like it.
No?

"I took the decision to resign in September 2008 only after very careful and anxious consideration. The decision to resign was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to take in my life. I believe that anybody who knows me and my attachment to Newcastle United and the North East in general will understand how difficult this must have been. I very much hope that the decision of the Tribunal now confirms why I felt that I had no option but to resign from the position as Manager of the Club that I love."- Kevin Keegan speaking on 02/10/2009
