“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” - Sir Bobby Robson

We already had a Krul thread, though.

I'd have kept a clean sheet today, tbf.

Had very little to do, which is a great indication of how well we played as a team.

You wouldn't have saved that first shot which Krul saved.

It looked easy, but it wasn't.

Hopefully he can get a run of games together and prove he's worthy of the number 1 shirt.
"I took the decision to resign in September 2008 only after very careful and anxious consideration. The decision to resign was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to take in my life. I believe that anybody who knows me and my attachment to Newcastle United and the North East in general will understand how difficult this must have been. I very much hope that the decision of the Tribunal now confirms why I felt that I had no option but to resign from the position as Manager of the Club that I love."- Kevin Keegan speaking on 02/10/2009

It's the injury Harper doubter have been waiting for. Lets hope he steps up to the mark, I think he will, tbh, not impressed with Harper at all this season.

Never really doubted Harper too much tbh, he's solid enough without being a keeper who wins you games with his performances. I'm more glad for Krul though, as I see him and Fraser Forster potentially to be dominant keepers and I wouldn't want to lose them because Harper is in the way. Now it's up to Krul to grab this chance.

Still to concede his first league goal isn't he? That's a jinx for you.

Yep, never conceded a single goal in a Newcastle top in the league or Europe.

That time you asked me where the name Shak came from.

"It was originally Shaka."

"Oh, where'd that come from innit?"

"Well I was a goalkeeper when I was young..."

Give Krul a couple of years and he will be our number 1.

oh dear
They keep saying their strategy will take several years to implement, I accept this and realise that in the future we may be able to hold onto players much easier if we manage to achieve success without burning cash to get there. There's next to no point in overspending until you're in the s*** to get to Europe, only to fall out of it for several years and potentially enter relegation battles. Be frugal, spend the money wisely but at all times keep a core of good players in the side and try the utmost to create a core which is reasonably stable for three-four years.

I fully expect to get slayed and slated here for being a w***** apologist and maybe I'm wrong, maybe all they care about is lining their pockets and f***ing us over but you can argue it both ways. The haters have a more aggressive way of talking about it but we'll not know who's right until MA's ownership comes to an end.

Not that i really wanna wish injury on our own players, but i kinda hope Harper's out long enough for Krul to make a genuine claim for the number 1 shirt this year. I think he's good enough to atleast rival Harper.

How can anyone want harper to be out? Having soderberg as our second choice goalkeeper right now is very worrying.

Still don't think he's ready.

He did well, but there were a few moments where his lack of experience showed through (like when he threw the ball out straight to their fullback, with like 10/15 minutes to go).
