Buying photos/prints in Newcastle
« on: Thursday 2 September 2010, 12:00:17 PM »
Am sure i saw this on here before but cant find it, i am looking for shops selling large prints of Tyneside and also smaller black & white prints. I found one on ebay located in Whitely Bay although am not sure if he is a shop or online seller. Would prefer to be able to go in and have a look even though he has a great print of the Tyne at night for £50 on there.

Any ideas on where is best to go?

I take pics and would be happy to sell you some, but if you want to see a finished article, then try Tynemouth market on a Saturday or Sunday morning, as there is a stall selling exactly what you want. I've no connection to it, by the way.

On this very forum there are some excellent photographers as well.

Cheers, i remembered about some photographers on here as the thread i was thinking of was of wallpapers using them. Its definately something to think about as i would imagine many have some great photos of the Tyne at night.

With regards to the smaller prints, does that stall have a selection of portraits(sports and otherwise) as well? The reason i ask is my computer room current has 2 prints(Beatles & NUFC badge) in a drawn/charcoal effect in black & white and i was looking to gather more of the same to run around the walls with various sportsmen, musicians etc.

Thanks for your response

There's loads of these little shops around. There is one in eldon square just as you go in the entrance next to the monument. Also try the monument mall there's like some art and photo shops with loads to interest you. Try the Metro Centre too, there's a few shops in there.
Of course. I've been grooming Pedro for ages just to get a crack at that starfish.

The art / picture / print  shop in monument mall has loads of tyneside pictures and prints on sale at the moment. They have just closed the metro centre shop (end of lease). Lots of that stock is now reduced in monument mall shop.
Mr Editor, I dont understand your position when you say I have no source or evidence for tonights back page lead story......its never stopped us from going to print before, and whilst I am chief sports gadgee of this paper it will NOT stop us in the future either.

how large do you want. there plenty of north east/newcastle photos/posters etc at the quyside market on sundays.

alternativly have a look through the photo thread, get a copy of what you want and go to cosco who now do decent poster sized prints.

on this sort of subject we have a photo theme in our front room of northumberland sunrise/sunset scenes so the pics are mainly golden and dark. bamburgh, dusntanburgh, alnwick castle, sycamore gap, whin sill.
Bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all.

Rather, bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant.

Thanks everyone, will be heading over to check them out next week.

Thats a bit like what i am going for madras, looking for either sunset/nighttime view of the Tyne Bridge for my chimney breast, the ones online got to 48 x 20 or 60 x 30(which is too big anyway) and would fit perfect, was just hoping to see one in person as opposed to a 4 x 2 inch version on the screen. Sick of so many people i know having New York prints up, want something local.

Tyneside market on a Saturday (I think) has a guy selling some pretty impressive prints of Tyneside, Tynemouth, The Quayside and Northumberland. They'd be ideal for you, and there are a couple of okish pubs to head for a pint once you're done.

Been years since i have been over there for the market, probs since my mam took me as a kid. Im one of those lazy sorts who does all shopping online so any time i head into town its on the drink or match so the likes of Eldon Square dont get seen haha

Alternatively go on flickr. There are literally thousands and thousands of Newcastle photos on there, you can search for what you want and then order prints.

My brother who now lives away bought a good framed print from Art in Monumant mall on his last visit up here about 6 weeks ago.
