The next one will start at Gadget's funeral after he loses his battle to testicular cancer.

Is that true?

Nope, just guesswork based on a typical Meadows 'throw something in there, never talk about it again for the rest of this series' mindset.

I thought it was very good tbh, he certainly knows how to leave things unresolved so you are wanting more.
Acceptance level adequate.

Noticed Woody had a swastika tattood on his arm when he was in the bath, also has a Hitler esque haircut.

I'm thinking he got into the racism thing when Lol had Milk's baby.  See something along these lines tonight.

Did you miss the movie like ?

Last nights episode was fantastic. That fight scene is as real as it gets in acting, so much emotion, felt like I was a bystander when you get that awkward feeling when something is kicking off.

If you want beautiful actors, polished 'til you can see your face in it dialogue, and all the loose ends tied up, then don't watch Shane Meadows. If on the other hand you want real people, real conversations, and real life, then there's simply no-one better. It's sad that people are so addicted to Hollywood fast food cinema that they think that real life is unrealistic. Meadows is a f***ing genius.

I probably enjoyed this series more than the last one. Aye there are flaws and such but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy what's in front of you. These days we over analyse everything, especially movies, and become quite the critic, which can spoil what should always be about entertainment and This is England entertains. It also moves you and for someone like me who grew up in the 80s, takes you right back. The characters are superb too, even Milky who is an extremely weak/limited character and actor has a key role in the series. Woody is without doubt the best character though and someone I'm sure we can all relate to. He clearly wants to be someone else, i.e. the successful if not steady eddy type but he also wants to be the rebel, the jack the lad, and he's torn. He's in conflict with himself and society, they all are and we are too. Meadows is great at that, bringing to the fore such conflicts in us be it the viewer or his characters. Ronaldo is right though, such an ugly set of bastards outside of Kel

Just watched the last 2 episodes there. Really powerful stuff, especially in the hospital but didn't like a few of the scenes that were really dragged out like Lol with the nurse and in the church. Still enjoyed it though.

The UK's Scorsese, IMO.
The close ups, the soundtrack, the hanging shots...waiting and waiting.
The cast get the same criticisms as Scorsese's original ensembles used to get, mumbled dialogue, too much swearing, stop shouting!
Great TV, though it's set in Nottingham not Yorkshire, am I right?

Real life? There's nothing real about multiple characters doing a complete 180 simply to fit the plot, like. It's called convenience.

Sir John Hall: "I was told that the man behind the deal was Mike Ashley and I sat with his representatives over three days thrashing out a deal. I was keen to know why they wanted the club and they were quite honest. They wanted to market their sports goods in the Far East and would use the club to help do this."

No, although they filmed sections of the first film in Nottingham (right by where I was living at the time). Never been set there mind.

What are these complete 180s then?

The only one I can think about is Banjo from the film to the series, but that could be explained by the fact that the bloke who had been influencing him tried to cave his skull in with a bottle, as I remember it, and I reckon that most people might reconsider who they were friends with after something like that. Reckon you're going to struggle to give me any more, to be honest, and anyway, they were kids in the first one and people change a lot during that part of their life.

I always got the impression that Combo was introduced to that whole sick ideology by Banjo himself. Combo just eventually became the leader because of his natural charisma, emotional intelligence and of course the gaping hole in his life

Then there's that horrible old b****** who ended up in hospital in the last one. Even Shaun has turned into a cowardly little fairly with low self esteem. Honestly, I love gritty drama that cuts close to the bone, but none of '86 or '88 really rang true to me. I'm repeating myself, but it just seems like post-watershed soap opera.

Just to return to the uber-lad "none of them are fit" argument, i think Lol's weirdly fit, like. Particularly in the film - pulls the mohawk off no problem.

Dunno wtf's happened to Smell with that orange barnet, either. Thought she was sexy as hell in the film. "Wanna suck my tits?" Aye alright then.

You'd have a job as she's got none.
"I took the decision to resign in September 2008 only after very careful and anxious consideration. The decision to resign was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to take in my life. I believe that anybody who knows me and my attachment to Newcastle United and the North East in general will understand how difficult this must have been. I very much hope that the decision of the Tribunal now confirms why I felt that I had no option but to resign from the position as Manager of the Club that I love."- Kevin Keegan speaking on 02/10/2009

Just catching up with this, halfway through te final episode, whole thing has been s**** so far bar a couple of great woody scenes.

Disappointed, and expected to be as well, it's why I put it off till now.

Will watch 90 because I've seen the rest, but in no rush at all.

Watched the whole thing this week, from the film (again) through 86 and 88. It's been tremdenous, powerful stuff with no stone left unturned in where Meadows decided to take the story. Super performances all round - especially from Woody, Lol (who I think is lovely! :coolsmiley:) and Combo. Can't wait to see the next installment later in the year.
