Worldnet 2010 July 23/24/25 @ Leeds Uni.
« on: Monday 8 March 2010, 03:12:26 PM »
World net, as the Barnsley fella said, is the 64 team 'World Cup' style event that the IFA run every summer. I've been before with the Hampton & Richmond team and I can confirm that it is a great weekend. On the Friday they have an England vs Scotland match with players selected from the IFA teams by the repective "National Managers", then they have the final of the IFA Cup which has been run throughout the season (obviously we didn't enter this season).

For the rest of the weekend you have the Worldnet competition. Basically you are drawn in a group of 4 teams and play each team once on the saturday. On the sunday there are two knockout competitions. The "Cup" is for the 32 teams who come in the top two of their groups while the 32 bottom two teams compete for the "Plate".

Teams can stay at Boddington Hall (part of Leeds Uni) where the games are played (although it has limited space) or, as we did, they can make their own arrangements and stay elsewhere. There is a bar at the halls and a lot of teams stay here and get to know each other (not in a gay way) or there is always the centre of Leeds for a night out. Either way it is good for team bonding.

The following teams have entered this years Worldnet.

1. Bradford Internet Bantams 2. Arsenal Nigeria 3. Ayr United 4. Livingston GS 5. Southampton 6. Castle Rock 7. Bury  . Bury B 9. West Ham 10. QPR 11. Motherwell 12. Welling United 13 Dunfermline 14. PNE B 15. Kidderminster A 16. Kidderminster B 17 WBA 18 Sheff U1 9 Man U 20 Aberdeen 21 Stockport A 22 Stockport B 23 Barnsley 24 Brentford 25 Peterborough 26 Watford A 27 Watford B 28 Grimsby 29 Hearts 30 Doncaster * 31 Exeter Exiles 32 Swindon Town City of Broken dreams 33. Ipswich 34 Partick Thistle 35 Portsmouth 36 Hull City 37 Leicester 38 Middlesbrough A 39 Rushmoor United 40 Halifax * 41 Accrington Stanley 42 Middlesbrough B * 43 AFC Wimbledon * 44 Oxford 45 Crystal Palace A * 46 Spurs * 47 Derby youth * 48 WBA II * 49 St Johnstone 50 Crystal Palace B *5 1 Rotherham *

Before you ask I have no idea what the * are for, they were just on the email the guy sent me.

The entry is £350 per team (£23.33 per person for a 15 man squad). Obviosuly there would need to be a costing for accomodation aswell. That can be worked out later.

Discuss.

How long are the matches?

10 mins each way.
They keep saying their strategy will take several years to implement, I accept this and realise that in the future we may be able to hold onto players much easier if we manage to achieve success without burning cash to get there. There's next to no point in overspending until you're in the s*** to get to Europe, only to fall out of it for several years and potentially enter relegation battles. Be frugal, spend the money wisely but at all times keep a core of good players in the side and try the utmost to create a core which is reasonably stable for three-four years.

I fully expect to get slayed and slated here for being a w***** apologist and maybe I'm wrong, maybe all they care about is lining their pockets and f***ing us over but you can argue it both ways. The haters have a more aggressive way of talking about it but we'll not know who's right until MA's ownership comes to an end.

Doubt i will happen this year.....But yes im always up for NOFC games of any sort

Actually, on that note whatever position Slim plays for NOFC, make sure he can take alot of shots, nearly broke my hand with one in warmup,  I took some shots of Steve Bowey (ex Bristol City, I think he took their set pieces) and Slims had far more venom in them.  Don't think I've experienced such a powerful strike before.

Yeah, I'd imagine this year is too soon. Especially with the SJP game in the plans. But it gives us something to work towards, some milestones in the NOFC future to aim for along with the first away game and, of course, the first victory.

I've played against Brentford a few times. They're rubbish.

FYI, Arsenal Nigeria are actually a load of Arsenal fans from Nigeria who fly in specially for WorldNet.

We won the plate about 4 years ago, against Inter Milan :D

It's a fantastic weekend. Couldn't get a team together this time around, which is a big shame, but if you lot enter I'll come and support.

Oh, played against Ray Houghton (who played for the sports interactive team) which was fun. He's crap now like.

Oooohhh. I wasn't sure if this was going to take off or not. I'm definitely up for it, but I would probably only be able to one of this or the SJP game due to the financial restrictions placed upon me by the wife.

Well, chances are one or the other is bound to fall through - the SJP game looks a more likelier bet seeing as how 30+ people registered their 'genuine interest' last month. Just need them to cough up the dosh (or the cheque) to make it happen now.

With the upcoming NOFC games and the SJP game I'd be positive we could have 15 people willing to play in this. Accomodation will be the issue. All round Dave's house?
