I've tried this before, but I'm always up for finding some new music in a genre I still know very little about. I've been listening to a fair bit of electro/dance recently with favourites including Crystal Castles, Justice, SMD, Deadmau5, the Field, Boys Noize, Leftfield, the Prodge and recently Four Tet - what should I go for next?

Duncan Banantyne would rattle out his "this is not a business" catchphrase in no time.  Anyone else noticed how often he says that?

When people are proposing business ideas to him it's no real surprise though.

I'm going to utilise this thread for what it was intended...

I love the beatles, stones, kinks, led zep, simon and garfunkel etc f which leads me to the smiths, clash, jam, strokes, KOL, libs oasis etc...then to muddy waters, bb king, memphis slim etc.
I appreciate its mostly blues/rock and with this being my music taste I find it hard to be involved in the 'new music' scene that jo whiley loves so much so I hardly ever know which new bands are good and i never really make an effort to find out. Obv I like arctic monkeys, cribs, the music etc.
I just want someone to tell me, if you like that, you'll love this......
I only have a 40GB laptop and so if im going to get more music it has tobe something Ill utilise otherwise it takes up valuable space for music i like.

I recommend you give British Sea Power a whirl - they've got 3 albums out and they're all top notch.  At times they sound a bit like The Pixies, but they're far less harsh than them and I do sometimes think they sound a bit 60s like The Beatles and Beach Boys, although I'm not really a fan of either band tbh.  They were one of them bands I meant to listen to for ages, and by the time I did I felt like a tit for leaving it so long.

Open Season's my favourite, it's class. Maybe give Neutral Milk Hotel a try too and whilst a bit obvious the White Stripes did some great bluesy rock early on.

I never "got" Neutral Milk Hotel. That will make me very unpopular, I know, but I just didn't really like them.

The more I think about it, the harder it seems. My advice: use Amazon.

Cheers mate, that's a really cool site.  I'd like mine to be like that, but shitter.  And to encompass everything, not just music.

Point taken but there doesn't seem to be anything more wide-ranging than just one medium (music), does there?  I still think there's room for something like that.  Once I'm more clued up on HTML I'll do it (if you haven't already done it and sold it to Google).  I half thought that when you disappeared last night you were going to come back and tell us you'd taken over the world.

It's definitely do-able but you need a lot of people to make it work or a huge constantly updated database of everything like Amazon. Ideally both. Like what Amazon have.

I'm trying to find an Aesop Rock song that's literally just like this in terms of look. Hell it might not be him but it sounds like him, it's like Alt rap; heavy guitars over a guy rapping in like a disused building.
