Saw Billy Connolly at the City Hall tonight, and met him after the show. Top bloke and still hilarious.

Was there too. Likened him to watching NUFC; entertaining in parts, but generally s****.

However, whereas I will go back to see the Toon, I wouldn't go back to see Connolly. Funny in parts but hilarious? Not for me.

careful, in my experience connolly fans are as defensive as sci fi and heavy metal fans.
Bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all.

Rather, bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant.

I've a fairly keen interest in stand-up comedy but have never really understood the fuss with Billy Connolly either.

Must say I'm the same with a few mind, such as Ross Noble and Eddie Izzard.

eddie izzard was soo good when he first hit the big time as it was very original. clever bloke as he seemed to know this (imagine if the simpsons, family guy. south park etc hadn't been round in the past and the last series of the simpsons was the first anyone had seen, everyone would think it was excellent)

Yeah, I quite like Milton Jones.  Similar humour to Mitch Hedberg and Demetri Martin although I don't think he's as good as either, mind.

 Phenomenal material, unusual style, charisma off the scale.  A big miss.

Gonna have to go back and watch some. Been an age. On a similar note, still pisses me off to think Bill Hicks would only be in his early 50s right now.

Would have loved so much to see Hicks live.
Got a vibrtating love egg stuck in wor lass last night. The string snapped to get it out. It was remote control so I kept turning it on, then i realised she was nearly crying. Had to fish it out. Never mind.

I looked the devil in the eye, went home and jerked off. That's standard procedure.

A lad I know is going to do some stand up despite not being able to talk: http://lostvoiceguy.wordpress.com/2012/01/21/stand-up-and-be-counted

First gig is tomorrow. I think a few others off here will know him too. Should be interesting anyway, he's a canny funny lad.

I'm a fan of Connolly but the amount of repeat gags in his material over the years have watered his act down a bit.

Heard somewhere that he's apparently cut a few of his gigs short due to hecklers and people moving around to the netty etc.  If that's true then it's definitely a sign that he's lost it - the only major comedy act that I've heard do that was Chubby Brown at City Hall back in the late 90s when he couldn't handle the hecklers.

Anyone got any recommendations from this lot? http://www.comedy-festival.co.uk/events/index.php?nav_id=2&level=1 I've got a free evening tomorrow night. James Acaster looks good but he'll be on the same time as the spurs game.

For Sat 11th, can't seem to get the link to only show that day.

That's a good one, I can't say he's really my type of comedian but I'm pretty much in awe of the way he does it, it's a real talent.  He was on 6 Music the other day and was really good value, introduced a Prince song with a joke something like "Prince was around my house the other day, he pointed at the top of the washing machine and asked what's that?  I said it's the cycle formerly known as rinse".

His Fringe show last year was good, set up with people from the crowd in a game show style which he used as a vehicle for his one-liners broke it up really nicely. His stand up shows are pretty hard going.
