The Insider on Film 4 (30 mins ago. 30 mins time on Film4+1) if anyone wants to see two of the best performances of all time
Just watched the Panorama investigation into the level of poverty in America. Some of the stuff they showed was shocking, I've heard that Detroit isn't very nice but I didn't realise that half the city is crumbling apart. Kids not being able to eat is horrible as well. Didn't know that 1% made around a 5th of the country's income either.

The health situation's the biggest thing for me, insane that people are being priced out so widely but that's been an issue in America for a long time as far as I know. That clip where members of the debate audience were shouting "YES" when asked whether someone should be allowed to die if they can't afford treatment was disgusting.

That's how little some of these people think of their fellow citizens, and how lowly they value life. The mental thing is how quickly it can go wrong. Let's say you're on $40,000 a year doing random job, cut backs made = no health insurance. Get a hernia doing a part time job involving lots of manual labor with crap / no health insurance (like that bloke on the show), then spend $20,000 dollars to get that intestine. stuffed back into you = savings gone. You are now poor.

You are now poor. The astounding thing from my point of view, is that half the time the people making these comments are the ones who could easily find themselves in a situation where they have no health insurance. They just seem to be very much sold on the "free market" and the ability for every man to prosper in good old America, if he works hard enough. I mean, just look at the red/blue split in the elections over here, it's insanity. I understand the wealthy folk voting Republican, but the poor rural folk do it too, and royally screw themselves over. All the Republicans have to do is throw in some socialism rhetoric, push some patter about British taxation in the 1700s and jobs a good 'un.

The good old bible is probably the justification for voting Republican. It's fair enough, who needs real benefits and a better quality of life when you've got God.
I made it my quest to seek out and listen to all the great British bands from years gone by to see for myself. What I found was that although all these other legendary British bands were f***ing great, the difference was that they had in my opinion nowhere near the quantity of good songs that Oasis have. Even the Beatles.
On Ch5? Have I missed her?
