As for Brienne I am thinking they are going to pull the usual TV cowardice and cast the supermodel with glasses type. It would be nice if they actually cast someone awkward and ugly.

They have already established a precedent with Arya who is not horselike nor believably a boy.

I think he would make a great Stannis personally.

Could well be Stannis. All that is known is that he was in talks with HBO about a role for next season. Butler rumour seems a bit far fetched tbh.

Official casting call breakdowns for Brienne and Melisandre:

(minor book 2 spoilers)Spoiler

[BRIENNE TARTH] FEMALE. Age: 20s. A skilled warrior in service to Renly Baratheon. Larger and stronger than most men, we first meet Brienne when she wins a tournament, defeating the famed Loras Tyrell. Big-boned and plain faced, she has an awkward personality, but is also honest and loyal. She is derisively known as “Brienne the Beauty”… RECURRING. (Season Two: 6 episodes/Season Appearances: Multiple Season) Must be a MINIMUM of 5’10″. Do NOT submit actresses that look like models. We are looking for a big, WARRIOR-TYPE woman that’s more MANLY than womanly.

[MELISANDRE] FEMALE. Age: 25-35. A red priestess from Asshai, a mysterious region in the far east, Melisandre is an influential counselor of Stannis Baratheon. She possesses prophetic powers and controls dark forces. Melisandre is highly sensual and seductive and well aware of her sexual command over men. She means to impose her religion on the world by all means necessary. She is extremely dangerous to any who dare stand in her way. Recurring. (Season Two: 5-6 episodes/Season Appearances: Multiple Seasons) *Nudity required*

Only issue remaining is if there is a "Brienne" out there that's into acting. Could see them having to start looking at "prettier" options down the line as the acting skills need to be in place as well as looks.

Edit: I forgot Martin's confirmed the role is cast and that the fans, according to him, would love her. Could mean they've found what it said on the tin.

Also as for the disclaimers for "***Nudity Required***" I am surprised they don't use that for all of the characters considering the addeed sex scenes on the TV version. Okay maybe not Catelyn (now) but the producers and writers seem to love an excuse to get them oot.

It's more a "this role will require nudity" compared to roles that may or may not perhaps require it down the line, imo.

Actually, given how we know Curran has been in discussions with HBO and that we know Wilmot auditioned for Davos... Makes me fairly certain Curran would be Davos given their similar appereances.

Curran could be Edmure Tully.

Did the Blackfish already get introduced in the TV version? I can't remember if he was in the scenes of Catelyn arriving at the Eyrie.

The Blackfish might not appear at all. Martin said he had not seen anything on the Blackfish, which is a bit telling since Martin needs to give final approval on castings before they get submitted to HBO for contract talks. Seems likely since we never got to see him at the Eyrie.

Anyways, what's your favourite line(s) / exchanges in the books? Two of my favs are (book 3)Spoiler
(bit paraphrased as I don't have the book in front of me) "In the end, Tywin Lannister did not s*** gold." and "I've only ever loved one woman. Only Cat."

:aww:

That Littlefinger line is absolutely lethal like. The whole final quarter of the 3rd book is class.

Can't be arsed to read the 4th book at the minute.

Thought struck me today, Martin is 62 and not exactly healthy looking. He's on a current speed of 5 years a book. What if he dies before finishing? I do some googling, and it appears he's made no arrangements for anyone to finish his story should he go. No treatments saved with his editor or family. When asked he just said "Then you're all s*** out of luck."

Damn, man. Don't even want to consider how much of a f***ing bummer it would be if we never got an ending. Would haunt me for the rest of my life. :undecided:

I've thought about him dying multiple times for some odd reason. I would imagine his estate would handle it and give the rest of the writing to a respected author/writer. Worst case scenario I think is the series ends up being like The Wheel of Time and someone else finishes it from Martin's plan and outline. I hope. I just can't see it going unfinished.

That's the issue though, Martin's said he's not made an outline for it, hence the "Then you're all s*** out of luck" comment.

I have a hard time believing he hasn't made an outline for such an expansive story. Martin's not like other writers though.

Edit: Saw a quote from him saying the series was initially going to be three books, I guess he really doesn't have an outline. He has to have a plan though, and if something happens to him hopefully there's enough for someone else to finish it off.

sorry.  was more a statement on how the fella's gonna get it to 7 books. as the previous comments, ot could be a ghost writer or someone nominated by the estate to finish the story..

hope he does because it's a grand read

Just get John Ronald Reuel Tolkien to finish it........ :fishing:
