Glad i got back into this, really enjoyed the last 700 or so pages this week. Looking forward to ADWD when i get it this weekend.

Book 4 imo (spoilers)

Spoiler

Positives:

Jaime - Really enjoyed his chapters, the change in him since being captive at Riverrun has been great. Losing his pride/arrogance with his sword hand and becoming a better charater for it.

Cersei - Usually didnt enjoy these chapters but the fall of her character is great reading culminating in the failed conspiracy with Marg.

Samwell - Dirty fat f***er

Negatives -

Arya/Cat - Was really enjoying Arya but dont really like the way it finished in this book, the Dareon/blindness thing just doesnt fit in well for me.

Catelyn - The whole zombie thing with Beric giving her his life makes little sense to me, unless something major happens later to justify it then it is just a pointless adition to the outlaws that wasnt needed.

Other bits. Looking forward to see how he develops the Dorne story, like the way Martel had planned to marry his daughter to Viserys. Hopefully Victeron gives Euron a good pasting too, its a bit naff as it is imo.

Probably much more boring insights which i havent got time for. When does the new series start? March?

Pretty much agree with all of that. Some joy/changes ocurr in ADWD to address some of your concerns.

Good to hear, looking forward to reading more Jon/Tyrion too, sorely missed in AFOC

Just finished book 4. The poorest so far. Although it did pick up a little near the end. First two hundred pages were a chore.

ADWD doesnt seem to get good reviews on Amazon either, hesitating buying it. Think ill have a break and read something else.

Is book 5 better than 4?

Nearing the end of Book 4. Its been a long read really, suppose it doesn't help most of the 'likeable' characters aren't around. Still, its been interesting learning a bit more about the whole religious side of the story.

Yeah , 3.2 especially was unreal. I'd imagine 5 should be better with the return of tryion and dany??

Finished ADWD yesterday before our match. Enjoyed it much more than the last one, the only spoiling comes with waiting forever for Martin to get the next one done  :tickedoff:

Surprised how much i enjoyed nearly every character as well, previous books have been more up and down but never got p*ssed off to see anyones name appear over the page this book.

That's just the paperback release, looks like they're separating it in two parts.

No it's the new book, book 2 of Dance with Dragons: After the Feast.

Actually looking at again, you might be right (apologies!). It looks like they might have split the hardback into two paperback books. Ah well the wait goes on...

Looking like they'll blatantly Spoiler
push up the red wedding to the end of season two
in the TV show going by the trailers and interviews done with the showrunners.

Seems a bit mental to do that.  There is enough going on in Book 2 to last series 2.

Not when it comes to Robb, really. And D.B. Weiss has gone on about how it makes sense to move "certain characters" story up from book three for this season whilst saving book two stuff for later seasons with others. Also seeing in the trailers that Robb gets his romantic interest already. :dontknow:

I am not happy about that. CoK has a very good ending as is, also I fear it may steal some of Tyrion's thunder. I was thinking Peter Dinkledge was going to take Sean Bean's place for the title character role and win an Emmy for best actor.
One of the few remaining non-hystericals.

They have a lot of different ways to go with it considering the timelime and the size of the books. It would have been ideal to have one season per book, but probably wouldn't make it as good of a show.

There's a lot that they've got to mess around with though if they do bring events forward.
Spoiler
For example Anya's story of trying to get back home.  She spends book 2 in disguise, hunted, captive, as a housemaid and eventually makes a break for it.  Book 3 is when she gets entangled with The Hound getting almost to her mother during the events of the red wedding.  The Hound meanwhile takes part in the battle at Kings Landing, deserting when it all looks lost.  Unless they bring that forward to half way through series...

that would require a s*** load of messing around
Spoiler
while it makes sense to actually show what Robb was up to in Book 2 but we weren't told about it until book 3 into series 2 I really have no idea how they'd pull off the Red Wedding in series 2 without pushing the battle for kings landing way forward because there was a lot of set up and foreshadowing of the red wedding in book 3

Missed it at the match, didn't even see Tiote running towards us.. I was facing the other way shaking the handlebars in a blokes mobility scooter behind me as we were screaming at each other
turned around to see them all lying on the deck.

They don't really need to mess about too much there tbh, all they'd need to do would just be making The Hound leave at an earlier time for a slightly different reason. Only theorising though, bigger chance my theory doesn't happen. Just like thinking about s*** to occupy my mind during the wait.
