I gave up playing a few years ago and wanna get back into it. Anyone know where I can get a telecaster on the cheap? (2nd hand, preferably not a squier but if needs be) Oh, and an Orange Amp? Always fancied one of them.

Can't really make my mind up about Zappa, some of his material is good but some is just downright awful. He's a very unconventional guitarist as well. Steve Vai was in his band as a youngster and transcribed his music.

Aye, even as a massive FZ fan I must say he put out some cak. But he has 60+ albums, so that's understandable. Absolutely changed my life, though, tbh. His guitar playing is like no one else's, really. He could do the bluesy traditional stuff, but often went for this very dense, slightly-confusing style which used a lot of strange phrasing, timing and tonality. However, for a more traditional solo I would recommend 'Sexual Harrasment in the Workplace', 'Watermelon in Easter Hay' and 'What's New In Baltimore' for starters.

I've hardly heard any of FZ, just Hot Rats (Pretty damn good, think Peaches En Regalia is excellent), Apostrophe (Super), Sheik Yerbouti (A really stupid record imo, not in a good way), and The Grand Wazoo briefly. What would you reccomend to listen to from him?

I will say that having been drawn to his music by friends saying, 'this is really funny check it out', it did open my ears to more varied sounds and I started digging sounds that I had previously found dissonant. Definately a bridge for me to when I started listening to jazz; I went from Zappa to Jeff Beck's stuff with Jan Hammer (Mashivinu Orchestra lite) to Charles Mingus.

If you like Hot Rats and Grand Wazoo, you also need Waka/Jawaka (which is the same sort of thing, but the best of all of them IMO).

If you like Apostrophe', you'll probably also like Overnite Sensation.

I haven't listened to the Grand Wazoo that much because it didn't grab me, will check out those though. My mate showed me a bit of Jazz from Hell and a few of his truly terrible records

Aye, JFH is pretty hard going, tbh. I'd go for The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. Live recordings with a big band. Good arrrangements, good playing and just about the right balance of complexity, humour and good tunes.

Missed it at the match, didn't even see Tiote running towards us.. I was facing the other way shaking the handlebars in a blokes mobility scooter behind me as we were screaming at each other
turned around to see them all lying on the deck.

Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore used ProCo Turbo Rats as I recall -- so's they're alright by me.

Always wanted a Digitech Whammy -- never got one.

Bought a Line 6 AxSys when they first came out in the mid to late 90s (was never super happy with it). But since then I've mostly used processors -- now software mostly.

Strictly no effects for me like, just my lead straight in to my amp. If I feel frisky I'll turn on my amp's spring reverb, but that's it.

I love distortion on my bass though. Unfortunately that's provided by an Ampeg plug because I can't afford no muff.

No overdrive or distortion on your guitar? ??? Do you play rhythm?

Is that a guitar synth?

Moog midi guitar. Entirely impractical, but awesome.

Is that a guitar synth?

A "multi-resonant filter" -- basically a midi-controlled filter device, so far as I am able to comprehend. This is it:

I play pretty much clean with a tiny bit of valve crunch from my amp. I play sissy pop/powerpop, so distortion wouldn't fly.

That's not a midi guitar, this is a midi guitar.

Honestly though, that looks class compared to that yamaha junk above, I thought the concept died after that.

recently I've developed huge respect for the Edge (since I saw it might get loud - if you like the guitar see it!) and I love what he does with respect to effects. Been playing with a lot of delay at the moment as a result

Rocks so hard it needs it a neck stabilizer:

Parker's got a new Adrian Belew model with a midi pickup -- not sure this is it, but it's something like it:
