The cycling thread
« on: Friday 19 June 2009, 12:58:48 PM »
Well it had to happen. I'm probably as unfit as I've ever been so I've resolved to have the bike fixed up and get out. I hate jogging. Love walking but being a non-driver as yet it's pretty boring walking round the west end and public transport can't be trusted to get me back sharpish if needed by the kids. So the bike it is.

Who else likes cycling...where do you go etc ?

in particlar anyone use those kevlar lined tyres (schwalbe marathons/armadillos....contis etc) what they like as i hate getting punctures.
Bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all.

Rather, bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant.

Once you hiot the cravan park at Rowlands Gill cross over the road through the park and then you can go all the way to Conssett then all the way to the moores there's a caravan cafe thing int he middle of nowehrre, drink & feed up cycle back.

or canny one thats shorter from Newburn along the tyne over the bridge into Prudhie and back along on the other side.

sounds canny. what i used to do  was just wander  along the country roads (basically if you drew a line from hexham to kirkwhelpington up to morpeth over to blyth) and just follow signs to places i'd never been to.

The Mrs and I go quite regularly, we really enjoy it. We just got some budget mountain bikes and go on a 10.5m loop near home that incorporates varying surfaces and gradients.

www.mapmyrun.co.uk is a useful way of mapping out a route and tracking distances etc.

Does pretty much exactly the same thing, but I've always found http://www.mapometer.com/en/ much easier to use for making routes etc. Doesn't send you irritating emails all the time either.

The bomber had the best seat, a great riding position to, and those 3 gears were a + was just such a short pedal arm only thing that let it down.

just been playing about with those and whislt i like them, especially the altitude thing and calorie reckoner i'm a tad peeved at it's reluctance to use A-roads. it added 3/4s of a mile onto my cycle into work for no good reason.

What do you mean? You can have it snap to roads if you check the box to the left.

yeah done that and then it just gives you,as the crow flies.

you know if you want to plot a route between two points.....it wont go the most direct way, it wont use A-roads.

Ah right. I've never planned anything over 10m where I pretty much already know which way I'm going.
