NEWCASTLE United have completed the signing of Wigan Athletic utility man Ryan Taylor with Charles N'Zogbia heading in the other direction.

The 24-year-old has penned a four-and-a-half year deal at St.James' Park and will wear the No.16 shirt for the Magpies.

And a delighted Taylor told nufcTV in an exclusive interview: "It's fantastic. This is a massive opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started.

"You only have to look at the game against Sunderland and the Newcastle fans to realise why I have signed for the club."

Liverpool-born Taylor began his career at Tranmere Rovers and scored 19 times in 122 outings for the Wirral-based club.

A £750,000 move to the JJB Stadium followed in 2005 where he netted seven goals, four against United, in 73 appearances.

Ryan Taylor, meanwhile, is leaving Wigan after nearly four years at the club.

Steve Bruce said: "it was one of those decisions that was quite easy to make really in the circumstances. Newcastle have made him a fantastic offer and I know he has been angling to try and play in his preferred position on the right side, which we haven't been able to do very regularly.

"He is a superb striker of the ball and it is ironic how this game works sometimes. All that pain he has inflicted on Newcastle in the past has probably bought him a move there. He was always totally professional here and I wish him all the best in his new career."

He joined from Tranmere Rovers in the Summer of 2006 and was the second longest serving player after Mike Pollitt, who arrived a few weeks earlier. He played 55 league games for the club, scoring six goals. In total he appeared 61 times.

He said: "I want to thank Wigan for the way they stuck by me in dark times when I was injured, especially Alex Cribley, Dave Galley, Dave Hallam, and before him, Alan Tomlinson. It is down to them that I am still playing today, both for their medical expertise and their humanity. It's something I'll never forget.

"I also want to say thanks to the Wigan supporters who have always been behind me. I hope they understand that I feel it's time for a fresh challenge. I haven't had the best of luck here injury wise and 50 games in three and a half seasons tells its story.

"I feel I want to make up for lost time, and try and specialise in one position. I have to think about what's best for me but I will always wish the club well because it's been a big part of my life and I've made a lot of friends there."

Source?
"We make you feel good about yourself. “Oh well,” you will say when you glance around your settled squad of players, your suited and booted chairman who drinks orange juice in the stand and your manager who has been in charge for three years. “It may all be quite sensible and a bit mid-table here, but at least we are not Newcastle.” It is nice to make people feel good about themselves." Not much that has not already been said TBH, good to get it finally done.
Sir Bobby Robson: “What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

I predict at least three own goals on his debut.  "He just can't stop scoring against Newcastle!"

That's a decent goal return for a midfielder, assuming that's where he played for them.

The club have confirmed that they have paid a club record fee to land the highly coveted France Under 21 international midfielder Charles N'Zogbia from Newcastle United. Ryan Taylor has moved the other way as part off the deal.
