Is that all you can give us? With more text it would be easier to work out comparing certain letters from words easier to make out.
Acceptance level adequate.

Had a guess at Newbiggin, which might still be right.

I could, though it's pretty large which is why I originally chopped it all out. Also, it says somewhat unpalatable things about my ancestry...

Some more stuff for comparison - these really aren't related to me :aww:

Say what you will of the Victorian record-keeping, it wasn't that good...

If you are, I might have to start hating you. ;)

Seriously though, I could probably give you some advice/help if you want?

First letter looks similar to the W in "Wife."

Yeah, I reckon it's a "W" and the word starts: "West..."

First thing I said, actually.

I agree about the W, only thing is it suggests the third letter is also a W to me... Wiw?

Please tell me that you're not doing your family history!!

Afraid so, mate - blame the elders; I'm the first computer literate generation of the family...

Erm, yeah, help and advice would be appreciated. We've done fairly well by and large - only real roadblock has been finding a guy called George Wilson from 'somewhere in Scotland, possibly the North or South'. Do you have any idea how many George Wilsons there are in Northern and Southern Scotland? f***ing ludicrous.

Second, third and fourth letters join up very similarly to "erv" in servant.

Looks like an N when you look at the first N in the first word
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” - Sir Bobby Robson

For some reason I think the last letter is an S, I know the position suggests a G but the other G's are different.

Yep, certainly can, you might be on to something. Fairly sure the last letter is a G, btw, if you compare the sixth Yorkshire down's name.

None of the other S's go below the line though.

J, F, Y, P and G are the only letters that do.

Still looks more like the S's to me but the position would suggest its a G.

Are you looking for birth records?

If so, keep well clear of the census records, they're s**** apart from if you have no idea at all, if you know your year then you want to be looking at the St Catherine's index, ie the proper Births, Deaths and Marriages list.

Are you on ancestry.co.uk? That's the best site for doing this kinda stuff, don't go near Genes Reunited or any of those other s*** ones.

Scotland is a lot harder than England and Wales and I basically know f*** all about it, so I'll be no use there, but if you can tell me what you know, about someone from England or Wales I can help, because I can use the work account from home. :shifty:
