FRINGE - Season Four Episode 21: The Final Insult
« on: Tuesday 12 August 2008, 01:03:56 PM »
I think this will be worthy of a thread.

Quote
Fringe is the 4th TV Series co-created by J. J. Abrams (Felicity, Alias, Lost) and third collaboration with co-creators Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (The Transformers, Star Trek, Mission Impossible III, Alias); head-written by veteran scribe Jeff Pinkner (LOST, ALIAS). It is produced by Warner Bros./Bad Robot, and deals with a research scientist named Walter Bishop (who Orci describes as "Frankenstein mixed with Albert Einstein"), his son, and a female FBI agent who brings them back together. The show is being described as a cross between The X-Files, Altered States and The Twilight Zone. Like Abrams' previous TV shows, it will have an overarching mythology. A two-hour, $10,000,000 pilot is being produced, where Walter is in a mental hospital.

There will be plenty to discuss here :aww:

I thought the pilot was flawed, but they've re-shot a lot of it.

Still had a lot of potential though.

Looks canny s*** tbh.  And i love lost and 24

Actually, on that note whatever position Slim plays for NOFC, make sure he can take alot of shots, nearly broke my hand with one in warmup,  I took some shots of Steve Bowey (ex Bristol City, I think he took their set pieces) and Slims had far more venom in them.  Don't think I've experienced such a powerful strike before.

So is it the re-shot pilot tonight? Or the first proper episode? And is it being shown in the US? I've got the original pilot somewhere but never got round to watching it...worth it? Or not?

Blah i dont know.

Funny the pilot starts in a commercial jet  ;D Not very original are they.

This sounds a bit too sci-fi, guess i'll give it a go.
"All I have ever wanted to do is play for Newcastle. That’s been the case since I was a teenager, playing for the juniors and reserves, and it’s still the same now. Every time I pull on the black and white shirt – and even more so now that I have number nine on my back – it means the world to me so to be able to do that for at least the next five years is brilliant.” - Andy Carroll, October 8th 2010.

Looks like it's going down the horror route. I like that.

Episode two written by Jeff Pinkner and J.J. -- bound to be awesome.

They still let this character create TV shows?
"I took the decision to resign in September 2008 only after very careful and anxious consideration. The decision to resign was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to take in my life. I believe that anybody who knows me and my attachment to Newcastle United and the North East in general will understand how difficult this must have been. I very much hope that the decision of the Tribunal now confirms why I felt that I had no option but to resign from the position as Manager of the Club that I love."- Kevin Keegan speaking on 02/10/2009

Watched the pilot a while back - it needs improve massively to keep me interested. It started well then got farcical and the acting was appalling.

Is this straight onto Sky One or not for a while?
"What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It's not the television contracts, get out clauses or the marketing departments or executive boxes. It's the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city''

Sir Bobby Robson, 1933-2009

"Following Newcastle is a birthright, a religion, a warm-up before the knees-up of a night out. On the Geordie check-list of must-do activities, watching the Toon ranks alongside breathing."

Liked that, bit derivative, bit far fetched, but good fun.

Was it much different from the original? Because, I thought that was quite well made really.

I think I'll join in with the Abrams insults.

LOST = made good by Lindelof, Cuse, Bender and Goddard.
ALIAS = made good by Pinkner and Goddard.
FRINGE = average pilot, show will be made good by Pinkner.

Abrams is a good ideas man, but his scripts have left me feeling cold recently. I'll judge his directorial ability on Star Trek, since he's done nothing special in that department since the Lost pilot either.

Abaddon was really wooden in this. So was the cow, who I thought performed much better in the lost season four premiere.

Ratings a rather disappointing 9m. This won't last unless there's a big increase, the production values are far too high.

By comparison, Lost premiered at 18m and cost about £5m less.
