It's a f***ing scandal quite frankly. As something which it is illegal to go without, it should be somewhat reasonable for everybody but it's a very long way from that.

This is what annoys me. Where's the regulation?

I was gonna say, my 21 year old brother pays around that for a 1.6L fiesta. The fees are ridiculous if you're still in the "potential boy racer" category.

I wouldn't be averse to the tracking-based insurance thing though. I do a lot of miles yearly so my insurance tends to be above average for my age/vehicle. I'd be prepared to whack something like this in the car with me to knock the premiums down a bit. I don't stray above speed limits anyway.

That with any NCD? If not, I'd say a 1.6 is quite a big engine at 21 tbf.

Yup. That's through QuinnDirect as well, who as far as I know are the cheapest for younger drivers. Some of his other quotes were ridiculous, you're talking as high as seven grand.

Ridiculous that they tar so many people with the same brush, so something like a tracking device may be extremely beneficial to younger male drivers who want a half decent car but have no interest in "racing" each other.

Considering insurance is mandatory it should be far more strictly regulated than it currently is. This tracking seems a good idea, but like people have said how does it know if you're not driving safe? Driving at 80 on the motorway at 1am is fine as there's no one else!

And what's to stop it talking bollocks to make sure your premium goes up? How would you dispute it?

The whole thing is f***ing nuts, looking in from outside. When I lived in the UK I cycled or used public transport, because while I was paying off my loans/actually living I couldn't even remotely afford a car. The only way to consider it sane is to presume that it's a backdoor way to stop so many cars getting on the road. THe problem is that you end up with increases in uninsured drivers, and younger adults have to hope that they've got generous parents.
Obviously, I'm speaking of a hypothetical world in which there is a greater club than Tottenham.

I pay about £2300 a year for insurance right now, and that was the cheapest quote by a country mile. I've looked at the insurance premiums for insurethebox, coverbox, etc, and they were some of the highest. So f*** that, will I be getting letters about my driving style from some automated service. Nooo

f*** me, what do you drive?!

Mitsubishi Galant. 2.5L, V6 sport  :smitten:  0 NCB, been driving for about 6 months ish now. Still cant get my head around some of the quotes that have been churned out (£7000 for example, 3rd party  :o )

To be honest, I bought the car canny cheap, and the difference between that and something like a mitsubishi carisma, or even a fiesta etc, is really minimal
