I'm obviously going to select the third option.

But I just wondered what everyone else's opinion appears to be with regards to The Floyd. As when I hear people talk about them, those are the 3 most popular terms that I seem to here.

For me they gave my music a whole new meaning, they aren't easy on the ears at times for some people and aren't their thing, which I can appreciate, as you do really need to listen to them properly. But when I'm in a mood to just chill, sit back and reflect on things, there is nothing better than The Floyd to do so.

Not bad.

Need to be in the mood, though.

Don't know about extra meaning and all that s****, I just find their music palatable to my own ears in the main which is really as far as it goes for me. Not every day music though, for me anyway.

Give Music A Whole New Meaning is a bit melodramatic, but still, they're good all the same.
You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.
We ourselves are responsible for our own happiness and misery. We create our own Heaven. We create our own Hell. We are the architects of our own fate.
Student says " I am very discouraged. What should I do?" Master says, "encourage others."
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.
It takes a wise man to learn from his mistakes, but an even wiser man to learn from others.
This is what should be done. By one who is skilled in goodness, and who knows the path of peace: Let them be able and upright, straightforward and gentle in speech. Humble and not conceited, contented and easily satisfied. Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways. Peaceful and calm, and wise and skillful, not proud and demanding in nature. Let them not do the slightest thing that the wise would later reprove.

Must add, never used to be into them much but was forced to listen to them on the way home from down south earlier this year.  It was bliss, felt rather like a cock for dissing them so much in my younger days..

my only memory was of Brick in the wall being banned at our School disco in about 1980 ish.

listening to the album version recently, i think it was too close to the bone for the teachers,

with references to teachers bullying kids.

I have re-dicovered floyd with the advent of downloads and find i can listen to thier albums, right thro, not many bands i can say that to.

I couldn't listen to them constantly but whenever they come up on the ol'e iPod shuffle selection, their stuff still enthralls.

Geetar solo on Comfortably Numb still makes the hair stand up.  I'm not saying where.  It just does.

Dad's a huge fan, never been able to get in to them though. Dark Side has always seemed a bit bland to me, really tried to get in to it as well.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about them now, some things I like some I don't, but I used to loathe them, mainly because they're one of those bands whose fans seem to think that it's their responsibility to force everyone else to like. There's nothing worse than having a tune you're not really that keen on inflicted upon you time and again by some knob that's under the impression that if you listen to it just one more time you'll see the light and become a true believer. Pink Floyd fans are the musical equivalent of the Jehovah Witnesses. Now that no-one's trying to force it down my neck, I don't mind some of their tunes, but before just the mention of their name would send a shiver down my spine and have me looking for the nearest escape-route.

Used to love them, still one of the best live bands I have ever seen.  Don't tend to listen to them much these days but still think their music is class.

my brother is a big fan and although i listen to rock a lot and i like the psychedelic culture or whatever it is they do, i've never got properly into Pink Floyd.. i'm sure someday i will rediscover them, it's not like i'm preoccupied listening to modern music..

I got into Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall in a big way when I was about 17, and it was a bit of a revelation for me because up to that time I'd been a strictly Oasis/Cast/Bluetones etc man, with a bit of Scatman John on the side. LIstened to them literaly constantly for a few weeks, then moved on to other old music, plundering Shields library music collection for months and months, and never went back to them. They were probably amazing in their time, and I wouldn't get tired of listening to certain songs like Comfortably Numb and a hand full of others off the Wall, but I don't think I've listened to an album of theirs for about 8-9 years.

Obscured by Clouds and Atom Heart Mother are my favourite albums. I don't listen to anything after Dark Side of the Moon, don't like any of it.

The greatest music ever to grace my ears, and until three years ago I'd never given them a chance. Animals is my favourite.

Animals is brilliant.
Rip their flesh
Burn their hearts
Stab them in the eyes
Rape their women as they cry
Kill their servants
Burn their homes
Till there's no blood left to spill
Hail and Kill

Single songs they're good. Whole albums they're the best band of all time. Comfortably Numb is something else when you listen to the tracks that come before it.
