Isnt he one of these s*** wrestlers only capable of s*** moves like closelines and slams i.e. nothing technical

While some people are only interested in watching a bunch of flippy monkies perform an acrobatics display there are also people who like to be told a story. Flair's talents have always been with storytelling.

Simply the greatest of all time.

Never had the best body (even when he was young) never had the best moves (Figure Four excepted),  but when he was on song he cut some of the greatest promos you will ever see and at the 'art' of being a 'proffessional wrestler', there was none better.

For me, the Ric Flair Circa 1985-1992 is the perfect example of what a pro wrestler should be, he had everything.

It is also incredible to think of how long he has wrestled for given his history of injuries, believe it or not, he actually SURVIVED a plane crash which broke his back only to come back and wrestle for decades afterwards!!, I mean come on is that not extraordinary?!?

Top class!
Of course. I've been grooming Pedro for ages just to get a crack at that starfish.

Nice.
"I took the decision to resign in September 2008 only after very careful and anxious consideration. The decision to resign was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to take in my life. I believe that anybody who knows me and my attachment to Newcastle United and the North East in general will understand how difficult this must have been. I very much hope that the decision of the Tribunal now confirms why I felt that I had no option but to resign from the position as Manager of the Club that I love."- Kevin Keegan speaking on 02/10/2009

See, this is what I am talking about, this is what makes him so great, he has never been 'good looking' or in 'great' shape but gets all the birds (well maybe not now, except the old ones )

He sweats like a b****** whilst wearing a white shirt, always taking the p*ss out of himself during matches with that hilarious delayed reaction thing where he gets hit then marches off a few paces and then just collapses like a sack of s*** face first! , plus the fact that in his 30+ year career he has NEVER been able to hit a move from the top rope  (an on going joke for years), its just great.

Ric Flair is simply the everyman who made it big, and thats why hes so great in wrestling terms.

When he won the 1992 Royal Rumble and won the vacant world title is still the greatest moment in wrestling.

Well after Papa Shango made the Ultimate Warrior puke, or the Big Bossman dragging the Big Show's dad's coffin behind his car...or Mae Young giving birth to a hand. God bless wrestling :D.

Indeed, 1992 was possibly the best year in WWF history, great ppv's and dont forget SumerSlam 92 at Wembley 80,000+ people.

Do you remember that match the same year, Flair Vs Macho Man at Wrestlemania 8? Great stuff infact that was arguably the best card for a wrestling event ever assembled imo:

Shawn Michaels V Tito Santana
Undertaker Vs Jake the Snake
Brett Hart vs Rowdy Roddy Piper
Owen Hart V Skinner
The Natural Disasters Vs Million Dollar Man and IRS
Virgil, Big Bossman, Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter V The Nasty Boys, Repo Man, & The Mountie
Randy Savage V Ric Flair
Hulk Hogan V Sid
Also, the Return of the Ultimate Warrior and an appearance by the Legion of Doom for an Interview .

Top stuff, puts todays WWE s**** to shame really.

Summerslam 92 was so British lol. I remember they interviewed one little kid outside and he's like "The British Bulldog is gonna win...whether he wants to or not." Then the Bulldog with his thick Leeds accent being billed as hailing from London lol.

Wrestling was only good with the ridiculous gimmicks really. Now it's just loads of generic muscle guys with common names who think they're all bad asses. Pish.

He bridged two generations of wrestling as well, as before Hulk Hogan and WWE took off he was the king of the national wrestling territories and some of his best matches were with Ricky Steamboat, Terry Funk and Dusty Rhodes in the NWA back even in the 70's.

And thirty years later he's having the best match on the biggest wrestling show of the year. Legend.

Must be said that this year's Wrestlemania was a very good show start to finish, Flair-Michaels is such a brilliant match. As Pedro said, what makes Flair is his ability to tell a great story in the ring, this was a prime example.

Edge against the Undertaker was great. Kinda wish Edge had won, he seems a lot better to me than the likes of Orton and Cena and the other new top guys. Though Taker's streak is pretty cool.

I liked that ladder match too, good unbelievably OTT action, some nasty spots thrown in there. Delighted to see CM Punk win, been a big fan of his since his pre-WWE days. :D

I liked Mayweather-Big Show too, was good for what it was.

Yeah, some great spots. One too many false finishes for my liking, though. Still a good match on the whole. Makes a change, usually the gimmick matches are old and tired. I hardly watch WWE any more, just the odd pay-per-view, but if I see another chamber elimination match thing I think I'll vomit.

Didnt see Wrestlemania this year do you know if it will be repeated for free anytime soon? I doubt it like.

Also, have you seen the 'Ultimate Ric Flair collection' DVD?, has many of his great matches particularly from the 70's.

Yeah, great box-set. I went through a hell of a wrestling phase when I was 18-ish, I'd seen most of them already like.

Same here I used to particularly love the Survivor Series back when it was 'proper' ie around 87-92ish!

Lol the old videos where they used to cut about half of the actual match out. Particularly survivor series 88. I also love 1990 where they had that winners match at the end with the badly correographed double teaming by Hogan and the Warrior.

I also love the old silvervision intro on the tapes: "If it's body slams, SIDE suplexes, clotheslines and drop kicks that yer after" with all the wrong moves being done at the time the narrator says the names.

During his time in the WWF, his hometown moved from Leeds, to London, to Manchester. God knows why they didn't just choose one of them.

He came to a wrestling event in Scunthorpe and ended up beating the crap out of a drunk fan outside. He was arrested but don't think the guy pressed charges. So even though wrestling is clearly fake, it pays not to pick a fight with these guys ;)
