Browsing the Newcastle-Online forum from a mobile device
« on: Thursday 20 March 2008, 09:58:38 AM »
Many newer internet-enabled devices are fully-featured with browsers that allow access of regular websites. However, with high data download charges and restrictive speeds still being major issues, it is worthwhile knowing that there is a text-only WAP version of this forum.

The URL for the WAP version of N-O is: www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php?;wap2

Pros
Much, much faster than browsing full site.
Far cheaper, due to no images/data downloaded.
Formatted for mobile screen sizes.
Most regular functions are available - starting new threads (though not polls), replying to topics, private messaging are all possible.

Cons
Quoting is not possible.
Modifying posts is not possible.
Voting in polls is not possible.
Images are not loaded, so less content and no smileys.
Quote triangles become very long and can be tiresome to scroll through.

Place any questions or problems with WAP browsing in this thread.

Dave won't let you.
You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.
We ourselves are responsible for our own happiness and misery. We create our own Heaven. We create our own Hell. We are the architects of our own fate.
Student says " I am very discouraged. What should I do?" Master says, "encourage others."
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.
It takes a wise man to learn from his mistakes, but an even wiser man to learn from others.
This is what should be done. By one who is skilled in goodness, and who knows the path of peace: Let them be able and upright, straightforward and gentle in speech. Humble and not conceited, contented and easily satisfied. Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways. Peaceful and calm, and wise and skillful, not proud and demanding in nature. Let them not do the slightest thing that the wise would later reprove.

I'm browsing the new homepage with my HTC Tytn II but whenever I load up the h/p it has some awfully constructed 'erotic story' with a series of links to the likes of youporn, redtube, etc.

Having never noticed this on my Norton-protected laptop, is this spyware on my phone or an issue with the site?
They keep saying their strategy will take several years to implement, I accept this and realise that in the future we may be able to hold onto players much easier if we manage to achieve success without burning cash to get there. There's next to no point in overspending until you're in the s*** to get to Europe, only to fall out of it for several years and potentially enter relegation battles. Be frugal, spend the money wisely but at all times keep a core of good players in the side and try the utmost to create a core which is reasonably stable for three-four years.

I fully expect to get slayed and slated here for being a w***** apologist and maybe I'm wrong, maybe all they care about is lining their pockets and f***ing us over but you can argue it both ways. The haters have a more aggressive way of talking about it but we'll not know who's right until MA's ownership comes to an end.

It's where the front page has been hacked. We thought we'd dealt with it but clearly not.

Apologies. We're on to it.

Are you on the wap2 version? 'Start new topic' should be at the bottom.

Random - it turns out that the letting for those options remains in the same colour as the grey box, meaning you can't see it unless you click on it.

Can I change the colour scheme on my mobile browser?

Not unless you want to re-write the SMF software.
