Actually to be slightly serious, I think all the ridiculous spending is, well, ridiculous especially by poorer families on (as you say) credit. I'm all for getting shitfaced, obviously.

Kinky. I bet you like getting drunk too.

Ok....me calling you a moron...well I'm never going to agree with someone who thinks f*cking over (sorry I can't a more acceptable or suitable term for what it is that she has actually done) little kids for wahtever reason is acceptable.

It probably helps us both to clarify (and I should have made this clear from the beginning that I have not argued about this teacher facing the boot or the morals/rights or wrongs of her punishment, fitting or not).  I have purely come at this from the perspective of, and in my opinion, what she 'MIGHT' have said to the kids (and if it were true to) being big time bang out of order.

So you can't see that she was probably put on the spot by some precocious kids?  Can you not imagine a scenario where a not-so-likeable kid is possibly having a go at another one in the same class, who might have expressed doubt about the whole Santa thing, and an impromptu argument occurs where the teacher jumps to the defence of the weaker, reasonable kid and says "well, actually, Jane's not stupid for being doubtful, in fact she's right."  And the conversation just follows on from there?

I'm not saying that's what happened, but by your reckoning that teacher has f***ed up entirely, beyond all doubt, sackable, how could she?  Bollocks more like.

I did not have a negative opinion of children prior to having one myself.  My wife and I PLANNED to have a baby and will have more health/luck willing. We would have not done so if I had have had a "pretty negative opinion of children myself".  For Christ sake, if anything, my responses show me in the opposite light.

Fair enough, I apologise for that insinuation.  Think I got your posts mixed up with someone else's there.

Anyone that f*cks the kids over (not the minority of cheeky little b*stard toe-rags who we frequently read/hear about in the news) are sh*te in my opinion.  I will never ever understand why it was ok for this teacher to say (true if this is the case) what she did to these kids.

I've given you a possible and not-unlikely scenario where it could happen.

"Respect for human life, something I do not truly  have".  You are correct here.  Such a statement makes me want to seriously kick the living sh*ite out of you.  You disgust me.  I'm responsible for my daughter's life you (yes and I am gonna say it again) ars*hole. It is my job to protect my daughter (as best I can) from the likes of what that teacher (allegedly) spouted.  This arguement with you is a joke.  I'm now protecting my daughter from the opinions of a grown man (assuming that is what you are) for something completely INNOCENT.  Have a word with yourself chap.

Me, have a word with myself?  When you would like to kick the living s**** out of someone who disagrees with you ON THE SUBJECT OF SANTA?  Yep, this argument is a joke alright.  Difficult to argue reasonably with someone who uses their kids as an excuse to be violent.  Trust me, you're mistaking fatherly protection for something else entirely.

Would I go up to kids and tell them Santa doesn't exist?  No, I wouldn't, but at the same time I wouldn't lie to them if I were asked.  That's a difference of opinion - much depends on how the question's posed.  And we should be able to have difference of opinion without tacit (though admittedly empty) threats of violence.  The fact that you can feel fine expressing that sentiment while censoring your own swear-words is hypocrisy of the lowest order and something I find pretty bloody depressing.  The moral high ground isn't yours to take.

And y'know, I do completely respect the fact that you're responsible for your daughter's life.  At some stage though, you'll have to respect the fact that she won't be a child forever, and that your job is to help them grow up, and not simply to maintain childhood for as long as possible - hard enough in this day and age when so much information comes from so many angles, without blaming a teacher who's there to help children.

Ok, who am I to say that, I don't have kids etc... well, I was one once.  And I come from a long line of parents.

Quote
The crux is this...in your opinion let's tell the kids what we as adults already know. Let's f*cking hurt them. Don't lie to them it's just not right. Tell them the truth about Santa.  Reading between the lines you could well be the teacher in question chap.  There's only one self-righteous chap on this forum that I am aware of and I'm f*cking certain it ain't me.

Well, I'm sorry, I'm pretty sure it's not me either.  I might think I'm right but I'm not self-righteous.

Truth is - the idea hurts parents FAR more than it ever does kids.  It's that first smidge of innocence taken away.  And that stings parents far more than it does children.  How did you feel when you figured/found out there wasn't a Santa, as a child?  Don't know about you but I think I got over it pretty quickly.  Nay, instantly, and wondered why the hell parents would pretend.  I think I'd worked it out due to us not having a chimney...

By the way, the tooth-fairy doesn't exist.  Which probably won't help me much if you ever happen to catch up with me and I cop one in the mouth.  Just hope your kids aren't there when it happens, having had a violent stepfather for a few years I can tell you, it doesn't make for a pleasant family life.

Merry Christmas, and honest best wishes for you and your family.

Let's hope they're not scared for life.
