The word ‘legend’ is something which is thrown around a lot in football, but for the late, great Sir Bobby Robson it couldn’t paint a more fitting tribute.
From comforting the tears of Gazza to jigging in delight on the touchline of Elland Road, with spells at the Nou Camp and The Phillips Stadium squeezed in amongst others, Sir Robert William Robson, born on February 18th 1933 in County Durham, really did live the highs and lows of football in his 76 years on the planet.
He managed some of the best players that the game has ever seen, won some of the most prestigious trophies in Europe and perhaps most importantly to him, took his beloved Newcastle United from the brink of the abyss to the top of the Premier League’s elite.
A legend of football and a legend of Newcastle United.
RIP Sir Bobby; 1933-2009.
